The airline launched its operations in November 2020 with an initial fleet of two state-of-the-art Airbus A321neo aircraft. On 12 December 2019, Wizz Air announced it would set up a new subsidiary based at Abu Dhabi International Airport to offer low-cost flights, tapping into growth markets across the Middle East, Africa, and the Indian subcontinent. In July 2020, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi announced its initial route network, launching six destinations from its base in Abu Dhabi. Jozsef Váradi, CEO of Wizz Air, mentioned that the airline's fleet could grow to 100 aircraft in the next 15 years. The first Wizz Air Abu Dhabi flight departed on 15 January 2021, from Abu Dhabi to Athens.
